Think mine had holes there, I thought it was odd though 'cos the gaskets I got didn't have the holes, so it blocked them off I've been running it like that for a good few thousand miles now and all's well
Oh but mines a 2.9, don't know if that makes any difference
Are they just really badly blocked, or is that metal I'm seeing |

Just managed to dig out a pic from when I had my heads off, as you can see mine does have holes there
But is it different 'cos it's a 2.9 |

Me to. . . so it looks like there are two types of head gasket
One with and one with out my new Payen D401 set has holes
Any way whats the idea with no valve stem rubber on exhaust
JUST a PLASTIC cover. . .Whats this all about any one shed Light on it. _________________ Crunchie |

Yep, 2.9 head has the extra cooling channels between the chambers whereas the 2.8 doesn't.
One mod is to drill a hole in the head for each channel ie where you have the pitting. (I've got the details in a V6 tuning book somewhere - I'll see if I can find it...). Think I used something like an 8mm dia drill bit and you have to be careful when you break through the water jacket not to drill any further and consequently ruin the head.
Quite easy to do really and anything to improve cooling on the 2.8 is a bonus IMO.
Perhaps the exhaust valve stem oil seals are 'plastic' due to the higher temps reached than the inlet valves? Not sure if that's correct though. |

So does that mean that I have a gasket set for a 2.8 in mine as it didn't have holes there As I say I've been running it for ages now with no probs |

Looks as tho u may have m8, but you should'nt worry bout it too much cos 2.8's dont have any major problems without the holes so your 2.9 as you say should be ok |

Hmm so in theary heat travels up and burns the rubber seals. Possable _________________ Crunchie |
